Settlement of Ambition

Remember that time when you were 18 and full of hope and dreams, you believed that you can achieve anything you want? That feeling of being invincible is the best feeling I have ever had. Because, 4 years down the line, you'd have a job that you wanted and that really pays well and everyone around you talks about settling and finding roots. The time between 22 and 24 flies so fast, that talking about any great achievement in those 2 years is almost impossible. The ambition and dreams that you had when you were 18, suddenly seem so far fetched, and that drive you have had almost faded out. Some of my most entertaining conversations were with my classmates were where we discussed on what we were going to achieve and what our big plans were. The conversations with any of my former classmates that I have now, just two-and-half years after graduation are just polar opposite of what were then. What saddens me deeply is that, no matter what we start talking about, the discussion always leads to getting married and a job switch. None of our topics back then included a hint of these two subjects. Debating about 'Means to an End - justifiable' or 'Utilitarianism vs Kantianism' was always exhilarating at the end. Now, I just seem to contradict my own statement about nothing changing in the span of 2 years, I guess a lot has changed but none of us has been around the other so much to see things changing.

P.S. If you are 20 or younger, watch out for the signs of settlement of ambition once you graduate. If you are 22 or older, I hope you can relate to what I'm trying to express. I know that it's never too late to start. But that's a discussion for another time.

Bon Nuit!
