Gratitude

This month, I have decided to dedicate my daily writings to one emotion. And I would like to start with the emotion: gratitude. In this fast paced world, the world of social media, there are happy pictures and events everywhere. You might find yourself in the midst of pool of people who are enjoying their life to their fullest, one might be getting married, another one posts about a promotion, someone else brags about a new house they bought, so on and so forth. Looking at these events through a screen, we are often prone to a sense of nothingness in what we are doing right now. This is a very personal opinion of mine, because I have been in this situation many a times. It seems as though, my life is at a standstill. I have been in the same job for a couple of years and there is nothing of importance that I did in the past year or two. It looks like everyone around me is running and I am just looking at them through a window and sipping coffee while everyone minds their business. I tried searching for that one thing that I should do to feel like I'm on the other side of the window, but could never find one. In fact, I don't even know what I want to do on the other side of the window.

But I do know of one thing, I don't want to keep running aimlessly just because others are doing it. I want to find my purpose on why I am running rather than to what I am running towards. This is when I realised, I appreciate the things I have and though it might not seem as if I am running but I am taking it one step a day, inching closer towards what I want. That is when it hit me, everyone is looking at the world through their window, thinking whatever they are doing is of least importance and that they are going nowhere. This is where gratitude comes into picture. It's important to pause and reflect back on what you have done and are doing, once in a while or at times when you feel low. Gratitude is not just to cheer you up, but also a small reminder to yourself that "You Matter"

P.S. The grass is always greener on the other side.

Bon Nuit!
